The search manager for Kamloops Search and Rescue calls it an alarming situation and one he has never seen before.
Alan Hobler says it is not just Ryan Shtuka in Sun Peaks who is still missing but there are also still several others.
“We have currently got three unresolved searches, which is quite upsetting for us. Of course one is Ryan Shtuka. The other is Thelma Vaughn and the other one is Jenny Larocque as well. My seven years with Kamloops Search and Rescue we have only had one other unresolved search. To have three in six months is kind of concerning for us.”
Hobler says to have three unresolved missing persons cases is an anomaly made worse by a severe winter, which has complicated search efforts.
He says they have to be called out by the RCMP to pick up any of the three search efforts.
“I anticipate with at least one or two of these will probably be out again and we will see on the rest.”
Hobler says the unresolved cases stick with his members with some going out on their own to search around.
Shtuka vanished mid-February after leaving a house party in the wee hours of the morning.
62 year old Thelma Vaughn’s car was found after she disappeared near the Lafarge bridge February 2nd.
And 61 year old Jenny Larocque vanished last October after leaving Prince George on a road trip.
Her dog and car were found on a rural road near Ashcroft in October.
