Update – There were no injuries after a tractor-trailer fire on the Trans Canada Highway west of Chase, closed the highway early this morning.
The highway is now open to single lane alternating traffic, but delays are to be expected due to congestion in the area.
Chase Fire Chief Brian Lauzon says crews arrived to find the vehicle fully engulfed, but they aren’t sure what caused the incident.
“A hydro pole was on fire so we backed up traffic just in case the power lines came down. The driver was out safely and checked over by BCAS, but I don’t believe there’s any injuries.”
He says the BC Wildfire Service was also put on standby as a precaution, just in case the fire spread to the forest.
Lauzon says the fire was outside the fire protection areas of both the Chase and Pritchard fire departments.
There’s also no information as to what the tractor-trailer was carrying.
Original – The Trans-Canada Highway is closed in both directions just west of Chase because of a vehicle fire.
The incident is between Willow Road and Chief Neskonlith Drive, and according to Drive BC there’s no detour around the incident and it’s not known when the highway is expected to reopen.
An update is expected around 11 a.m.
