One person was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries today in Salmon Arm, after a fire at the Captains Cove Marina on Shuswap Lake.
It broke out at 12:55 p.m., and photos showed thick black smoke at the scene.
Mayor of Salmon Arm Alan Harrison tells NL News the incident happened after someone refueled their boat, and he says it exploded when they went to start it.
“But the firefighters were able to shut down the fire quite quickly. The occupant of the boat was taken to hospital by BC Ambulance. Not life-threatening injuries at all. Quite a positive really, considering the size of the fire and the possible ramifications.”
Harrison says five boats were destroyed in total as well as part of the dock system.
