A 17 year old Kamloops girl has died of an accidental overdose at the Center of Gravity music festival in Kelowna.
Kelowna RCMP say they responded to the venue just 9 p.m. Friday night after reports of a medical emergency.
The teenager was treated on scene and rushed to hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Police say an investigation is ongoing but they do not believe there was any criminality involved.
NL has learned the 17 year old was from Norkam Senior Secondary.
The music festival took to Twitter Saturday afternoon to express its “deepest condolences” to the girl’s family and friends.
They however made no mention of a drug overdose.
The Interior Health Authority however also posted to social media addressing the death at the festival to say “mixing drugs or using drugs while drinking puts you at increased risk of OD.”
The BC Coroners Service is also investigating.
We have sad news to share today. A guest at Center of Gravity was transported from the site last night to Kelowna General Hospital where she was treated for a medical emergency and passed away. Our deepest condolences to her family and friends.
