The pending legalization of pot poses challenges for Kamloops RCMP, but what they are remains to be determined.
Superintendent Syd Lecky says the laws have not been finalized.
“Its going to be a challenge for everybody, all policing agencies.”
Lecky is waiting to hear from feds, but they are also trying to prepare.
“One of the things that we as an organization have reached out to areas in the States for example that have already been through this to get some ideas of what to expect. When the laws are more ironed out that will give us a little better idea on what direction we are going to take with it.”
Lecky says one of the big issues is drug impairment, and since there is no case law they don’t have anything about potential penalties.
Pot is set to be legal on October 17th.
