A 55-unit supportive housing complex in Kamloops will be moving in residents on Tuesday.
BC Housing has a three-year lease of the property at Mission Flats Road, and total cost for the housing has been $3.6 million dollars.
BC Housing adds residents will be paying $375 dollars a month in rent which will pay for 24-7 staffing by ASK Wellness.
The project was done because two other supportive housing projects in Kamloops aren’t done yet, as was originally planned.
Bob Hughes with ASK Wellness says the reason is due to processes with the City of Kamloops.
“Development permit, building permit, and then obviously just finalizing a contract arrangement to get this thing done. That’s what took probably much longer than anyone expected or hoped for,” Hughes says. “The design of the building has to comply with the requirements of the city.”
The two housing projects, at 259 Victoria Street and 317 Tranquille Road, are expected to be ready in “early 2019” according to a news release from the province.
Altogether they will add 114 housing units for homeless and near-homeless residents.
