Sun Peaks Resort is in the process of building new non-market housing to accommodate its employees.
Speaking on the NL Morning Show, the resort’s general manager Darcy Alexander says the housing will provide 80 beds for staff and will be done in early January.
Sun Peaks has said it hasn’t had any problem recruiting staff, but Alexander says housing all of their employees is a little more difficult.
“It continues to be a challenge and it will continue to be a challenge. Every mountain resort in the world has the same issue at this point in time,” Alexander says.
“We’re gonna be putting some people in Kamloops for a couple of weeks and bringing them up on shuttle buses in the daytime to work. That’s just the nature of the business right now. We have to provide accommodation for staff, we’ll probably be building more staff accommodation next year as well.
The ski hill is opening for the season on Saturday.
