Interior Health is advising that the emergency department in Barriere will be closed tomorrow due to limited staffing.
“We’ve had a sickness with our nurse who works at the Barriere Health Centre, and unfortunately we haven’t found anyone in our coverage area to replace her,” IH spokesperson Kevin Parnell says.
The medical clinic at the village’s health centre will remain open, meaning those with scheduled appointments won’t be affected.
Parnell says those in emergencies should call 9-1-1 or can visit the emergency room department at Royal Inland Hospital or at the Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital in Clearwater.
“We understand that involves travel, and we regret the temporary change in service hours in the emergency department. But that’s what people should do,” Parnell adds.
IH says the emergency department will return to normal operations on Monday.
