Things are mostly back to normal at Ponderosa Lodge, after a water main break in downtown Kamloops last Thursday.
The lodge was among the hardest hit, but most of the damage was contained to the foyer.
Interior Health Spokesperson Brad Buie says seven residents were displaced from their rooms, but they returned yesterday.
“Water was running into what is called Pod 1,” he said. “Great staff jumped in and got to work.”
“They sandbagged, they were sweeping the water from that area where it was going into the resident rooms, putting down linens. The fact that they did get on it so quickly prevented more serious water damage.”
Buie adds they don’t know what the damage will cost them at the moment.
“So when the restoration company came in, they saw no significant damage,” he added. “It just really needed to be air dried.”
“There is some furniture damage that needs to be replaced but I think we’re just very fortunate that it wasn’t more than that.”
Buie says when the lodge was flooding on Thursday, the water was cut off for a while, but it was restored fairly quickly.
All in all, he says the flooding wasn’t a major disruption to staff and residents.
