B.C.’s Attorney General says the two Kamloops MLAs are playing politics by trying make hay over any possibility that BC Lottery Corporation staff are leaking from Kamloops to the coast.
Dave Eby says it is simply not true, adding that as a matter of fact the exact opposite is true.
“We’ve told BCLC and we’ve been really clear that we are supportive of jobs being in Kamloops,” he said. “In fact, for most people applying to BC Lottery Corporation, Kamloops is more attractive than the coast.”
“A lower cost of living, their dollar goes further, it’s a great place to live, so they’re getting requests from staff in Vancouver to move to Kamloops. And that’s why we’re looking at adding that space in to the office and making sure there is space for people.”
Eby credited a “great” meeting with Kamloops business groups last week for taking the first step in deepening the relationship between BCLC and the community.
“In the longer term, in the medium term who knows where we’re going to go?”he added. “I know that there have been lots of discussions about where city hall is going to end up, and what the future of city hall is.”
“BCLC has assembled quite a number of properties and so what I said the folks that came to that meeting was to please work with BCLC and have those conversations about how BCLC can continue to support Kamloops.”
Eby added that he is not closing the door on revisiting the downtown Kamloops BC Lottery Corporation headquarters replacement project at some point in the future.
