A new map from the City of Kamloops is giving residents an idea how street sweeping is progressing this season.
The map will have three colours – green for areas that are completed, yellow for areas being worked on, and red for areas still not done.
Streets and Environmental Services manager Glen Farrow says there are a number of factors they have to consider.
“The weather at times, it’s a struggle with mechanically having all four of our sweepers up and running,” he said. “Ideally, when we make it yellow, we would be there in the next two weeks.”
“That’s a bit flexible as well.”
Farrow adds areas that are red are about three to four weeks away from being swept.
The online map will complement the street signs in neighbourhoods, according to Farrow, who says there are things people can do to help crews as they work.
“You know removing basketball hoops and hockey nets,” he said. “The sand that may have gotten on the sidewalk, sweeping that into the gutter so that when we do come around, we can pick that up.”
“Park on your driveway as well. If cars are left on the street, we will veer around them and that sand may remain there for months.”
As for street sweeping this season, crews are making good progress.
“We’ve completed all of Brock, all of North Shore, most of Valleyview, all of Rose Hill,” said Farrow.
“We’re working in the downtown core currently and the west end as well as we’re working our way through Westsyde as well.”
