The Boeing 737 Max and 8 and 9 aircrafts being grounded across Canada will have an affect on the Kamloops Airport this summer.
The airport’s managing director Ed Ratuski says the seasonal Air Canada flight from Kamloops to Toronto won’t start flying until July 4 because of a shortage of planes, and will run until August 29 as originally.
He says the weekly service was supposed to begin on June 20.
“And that’s as Air Canada responds to the result of the 737 Max 8 issue. So it’s an aircraft availability issue that we’re dealing with right now,” he says.
“The frequency is one day a week, it was on Air Canada’s best performing day (of the week) of the summer.”
Canada’s Transport Minister Marc Garneau grounded Max 8 and 9 aircrafts last month, after a plane crash in Ethiopia that killed all 157 people on board.
Ratuski says the non-stop Rouge flight will now run weekly from early July until the end of August, and he says the airport is looking forward to service returning to YKA for a second year.
