The MLA for Kamloops-South Thompson says his concern level is mounting over the impact of the NDP government’s community benefit agreements.
Todd Stone says he is hearing contractors are getting gun shy about bidding on a huge provincial capital projects due to concerns about controlling costs.
He is blaming the community benefits agreement over what he is hearing about big delays in four laning highway one projects east of Kamloops.
“I am also hearing that government is increasingly finding it challenging to actually bring contractors to the table even from an expressions of interest perspective,” he said. “Which means we are likely going to see further delays because government may only have one or two bidders bidding on projects. That would result in a higher cost for those projects.”
He says it is not just the Kamloops area saying the CBAs may claim one or more of the proponents currently bidding on the Pattullo bridge replacement project in the Lower Mainland.
