Kamloops RCMP says five batteries were stolen from travel trailers in the city just yesterday, in three separate incidents.
Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in most of the recent cases that have been reported to police, the strap holding the battery was cut.
“And we believe that the thieves are taking the batteries to recycling centres to turn them in for recycling fees,” she told Radio NL. “So we recommend that travel trailer owners mark their batteries with some form of identification. The easiest thing for us to run is a driver’s licence number, so if you could put that on there somewhere, that would greatly help us if we retrieve it.”
Shelkie says it’s also a good idea to park your trailer in a well-lit and open area, noting the cases are spread all across town with no hot spots.
If you spot suspicious behaviour in your neighbourhood, Shelkie says to call Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
