A Kamloops woman says her husband is making progress after nearly being killed in an accident last Tuesday near Vernon.
Chelsea Jones’s husband Tory had to be flown to Vancouver General Hospital after his truck was launched 93 feet, when the vehicle he was in hit a hydro pole along Highway 97. He was first taken to Kelowna General Hospital because he couldn’t feel his legs after the accident.
“They found out that his T-12 was shattered,” Chelsea told NL. “They did surgery and it all went well. He doesn’t yet have feeling in his leg but we are hoping for the best and taking it day by day now.”
Tory will likely spend about a month in hospital, but the family hopes to return home to Kamloops as soon as possible.
“He will have have rehab after that,” said Chelsea. “We’re not too sure what we’re going to do with the children, if we’re going to bring them down or just kind of rotate it with family, a week on, week off type of thing.”
Jones says her 30-year-old husband may be paralyzed forever, and points out she is a stay-home mom for their two young children, aged six and two years old.
“We’ve had a ton of family that are super supportive and our community back home has been unreal,” she said. “A close friend of ours actually started a GoFundMe. Tory is the sole provider of our household. This has made a pretty big impact.”
As of Monday morning, that GoFundMe had just under $18,500 for the family.
