The City of Kamloops has now hired a liaison to work with businesses in the West Victoria Street corridor where construction is happening.
City manager David Trawin says the city wants to make sure concerns are heard from businesses there, and he reiterates they are all still open.
“I do know that all the businesses are saying, the quicker you can get this done, the better it is for us. So hopefully that is some good news for them, and we’ll continue to try to work as fast as we can to keep the duration as short as we can.”
Trawin says the underground portion of the $13-and-a-half-million-dollar project is now expected to be done later this year – barring any unforeseen circumstances.
“I think it’s been very smooth, given the tightness of the corridor, the amount of traffic going through that corridor, as well as trying to coordinate with BC Hydro on the underground, and working with CP Rail, working with the businesses,” Trawin says.
