
A thunderstorm rolling through Kamloops sparked at least one fire near Batchelor Heights, which is now believed to be out.
Crews were called to an area near Saddleback Drive at about 6:30 p.m. Eyewitness reports to NL News say there was thick black smoke visible from across town which appeared to be knocked down quickly by rain.
BC Wildfire Service information officer Taylor MacDonald says provincial crews were notified of the fire but says they were not needed at the blaze.
A dispatcher with Kamloops Fire Rescue says all crews available have been called out to incidents, and says a power outage in Sahali has resulted in people being stuck in elevators at several facilities in that area.
At time of posting, BC Hydro’s outage map shows at least outage in Savona, near Highway 1 and Rodeo Drive.
No one at KFR was available to comment further on incidents this hour.
