A busy night for Kamloops firefighters with the storm that rolled through the area yesterday.
Platoon Captain Darryl Cooper says crews responded to an grass fire in Batchelor Heights, two people trapped in two separate elevators, and at least a pair of vehicle collisions.
“The fire on Saddleback was promptly put out. The rain mostly put it out,” he said. “We had three engines and a bush truck respond to that just to be safe. Initially couldn’t find the fire and then we got waved in. We put out the flames, crews dug guard and made sure the fire was contained.”
As for injuries in the collisions, Cooper says there weren’t any on the Yellowhead highway incident, about 4 km north of Mount Paul Way, but at least one person was taken to hospital from the Inks Lake Road area on the Coquihalla.
“Definitely the storm increased out call volume last night with the fire alarms and the elevator calls,” Cooper added. “When we do see storm go through that sort of thing does happen, we get storm surges and fire alarms goes off and the power goes out.”
Thousands of people were also without power across parts of Kamloops as well as in the Salmon Arm and Enderby area.
