The mayor of Ashcroft is hoping a dangerous intersection can be addressed by the Ministry of Transportation.
Barbara Roden says the village would like to see a left-turn lane put in at Cornwall Road for people turning off the Trans-Canada.
“Because there is no dedicated left-turn lane there if you’re travelling south, it is a dangerous intersection. A truck driver was actually killed there three years ago, now that was due to fog. But people are travelling quite fast along that stretch of highway, and with no dedicated turn lane it has the potential to cause problems,” Roden says.
“At Cornwall Road and Highway 1 outside of Ashcroft, the area known as Ashcroft Manor, Tim Hortons and an Esso travel centre went in there a few years back. And right now it’s single lane each way on Highway 1, so anyone who wants to get into the Timmies there or the Esso has to turn off of Highway 1 and then turn again into the parking lot.”
Roden says village mayor and council are planning to meet with Transport Minister Claire Trevena at the Union of BC Municipalities convention, which takes place in the last week of September.
