A couple of Kamloops Blazers have made the cut for two high-profile tournaments next month.
One of those is Connor Zary. He will play for Team WHL in the CIBC Canada-Russia Series on November 13 and 14 in Saskatoon and Prince Albert.
“It’s exciting as always. Obviously it’s a team game, but when you get personal achievements, it’s always a good thing,” said Zary. “I know a lot of those guys, whether I’ve played against them or played with them. I know my best friend, I’ve known forever from Saskatoon is also on the team so it’s going to be pretty cool especially with it being in my hometown.”
Zary currently leads the WHL in scoring with 16 points. Kamloops native Ryan Chyzowski – currently with the Medicine Hat Tigers – will also play on Team WHL.
Also today, 16-year-old Logan Stankoven was named to Team Canada for the U-17 World Hockey Challenge.
“It’s a really special feeling when I got that call,” added Stankoven. “I’ve been kind of looking forward to hearing who ended up making the team, so it’s nice to get that call. It’s almost like a relief. It’s an honour and a privilege to put on the Maple Leaf on at that tournament.”
That tournament will take place from November 2 to November 9 in Medicine Hat and Swift Current. It will feature eight teams, including three teams from Canada.
