A new political party has sprung up in British Columbia as the Ecosocialists party launched this week.
It was started after disappointment from the work being done by the current Green – NDP partnership. Stuart Parker helped organize the party. He says his hope was always that this government would achieve the promise that it represented. “I’ve been working since the 1990’s to see a Green-NDP coalition governing the province, I just imagined that it would be the opposite of what it’s doing now.”
Parker says serious discussions about forming a new party began in in February after deciding that action on climate change just wasn’t going to improve. “So at that point we realized that it wasn’t that this government wasn’t moving as quickly as we had hoped to a carbon-zero economy, it was realization that the government had floored the gas, that we were actually going to be increasing emissions faster than we did under Gordon Campbell or Christie Clark.”
The Ecosocialists has been registered by elections BC. Geoffrey Berner is listed as the party leader.
