CN Rail is investing more than $125 million to upgrade infrastructure between Kamloops and the Port of Vancouver.
The company has signed a long-term contract with Teck Resources to transport coal from Kamloops to Neptune Terminals on Vancouver’s North Shore.
CN will be upgrading its rail line as a result of the new contract.
The coal is coming from Teck’s four mining operations in the East Kootenays, and will still shipped with CP Rail from Elk Valley to Kamloops, before being transported to the coast with CN.
Teck’s president and CEO Don Lindsay says the new contract and upgrades from CN will match the investment his company is making at Neptune Terminals, which is co-owned by Teck.
The contract will start in the spring of 2021 and last until the end of 2026. Further details of the deal have not been made public.
