The City of Kamloops is spending $566,000 to replace the artificial turf at Hillside Stadium this summer.
Civic facilities manager Jeff Putnam says the turf there was installed in 2007 when the city renovated Hillside Stadium.
He says synthetic turf gets worn out from high usage and from the sun.
“So it’s not uncommon to replace it every 10 years, and that’s been in the financial plan for a few years now. We deferred it last year to 2020, and we’re looking forward to putting the turf in (this summer).”
Putnam says if it fits in the budget, the city plans to add some sort of shaded structure over the aluminum bleachers as well. He doesn’t have an exact cost yet but says it will be negligible compared to turf replacement, and he says the shaded structure would be put in at the same time.
