The Kamloops Blazers have signed another top prospect in Vancouver native Fraser Minten.
The 15-year-old was the team’s fourth round pick in 2019, and he’s signed a standard WHL contract after a long recruitment process.
Minten tells NL Sports that a week long visit to Kamloops earlier this month sold him and his family on the team.
“Yeah you know the experience I had here in January with the team was awesome,” he said. “It felt like a natural group and I really bonded well with all the teammates and the coaches and it seemed like the right fit for me.”
Minten is having a big season at the West Van Academy, with 39 points in 23 games, playing in the Under-18 midget prep league.
“From the day I got drafted I kind of had a hunch that [Kamloops] was where I wanted to go, and then after weighing both options and taking my time to make an informed decision, this one really stood out and from January on I think this was where I wanted to be,” Minten added.
He says the success that Blazers rookies Logan Stankoven, Matthew Seminoff, and Caedan Bankier are having this season also sold him on the team.
“Seeing guys like Semi and Logan succeed this year and Cayden too, its awesome and hopefully that can be me soon,” Minten added.
The Blazers have now signed four of their first five picks from last May’s bantam draft, defenceman Mats Lindgren, forward Tye Spencer and goalie Dylan Ernst are the other three. The lone unsigned player is forward Connor Levis (20th overall) who has a verbal commitment with the University of Michigan.
The team by the way is heading north to Prince George for a double header against the Cougars on Friday and Saturday night.
