Filming of Jurassic World 3 will be moving into Merritt for nearly two weeks, starting tomorrow.
City manager Scott Hildebrand says that will draw attention to the community which he expects mean an economic benefit in some form.
“So, certainly looking forward to that,” he said. “I know Merritt is on the list along with other shooting locations I believe in Hawaii and Kamloops and other areas where they’ve filmed Jurassic Park in the past. So it’s nice to be on the map when it comes to that.”
Freeman Casting put out a call for extras in Merritt, earlier this month, but it was then taken down not long after.
The major Hollywood production is expected to be filming in town until March 6th.
“It certainly draws attention and it’s something different and new,” Hildebrand added.
“There’s no huge expectations at all, but we are excited that they’ve decided to film a portion of the movie here in Merritt. And I’m sure our community and our residents will show well.”
Jurassic World 3 stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Isabella Sermon and Laura Dern, with Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum reprising their roles from Jurassic Park. It is set to be released on June 11, 2021.
