The Kamloops Centre for the Arts (KCA) Society is mobilizing its members to get out a ‘Yes’ vote ahead of the April 4 referendum.
KCA Vice President Brenda Aynsley says their campaign officially launched this morning, at the site of the old Value Village on Seymour Street.
“And this is the right project for the right time,” she said on the NL Morning News.
“And so we’ve got a lot of momentum happening here and really positive energy and there’s so many people over the years who have really wanted a Centre for the Arts in Kamloops and we’re kicking off four weeks of essentially campaigning for the yes vote.”
Aynsley says Kamloopsians might see lawn signs across the city, noting that volunteers will also be going door to door in the city’s neighbourhoods.
“We know there’s a lot of misinformation out there, and so we’re just wanting to talk to people,” she said. “If people don’t think they have all of the information, they can go to the city of Kamloops website, Lets Talk, or they can contact us.”
Since last June, Aynsley says the society has recruited over 5,000 people in favour of a new Centre for the Arts, noting that on March 28 there are plans for a rally downtown to try and drum up more support.
“So that is by the building that the Fawcett’s have donated and where the Kamloops Centre for the Arts will be,” Aynsley noted. “Brewloops is going to be there, we’ll have beer and food trucks, vendors from the arts community, t-shirts, buttons, and just really show the support that is here for this project in this community.”
The city will also be holding advance polls on March 25 and April 1 at Heritage House on Lorne Street.
