The Kamloops Curling Club is warning people who were at a tournament there last weekend that they may have been exposed to COVID-19, after a participant has now tested positive for the disease.
An email has gone out to people who attended the Men’s Sportsmans Bonspiel, which happened from March 12-15, and it warns those people of potential exposure.
“As a result, Interior Health is requiring that you self-isolate for 14 days from your exposure, and to monitor for symptoms,” an email from communicable disease specialist Kristen Hanson says, which has now been obtained by NL News.
The Kamloops Curling Club says there were 192 people at the tournament. During that event, there was a limit of gatherings to 250 people across B.C. That has since been reduced to 50 as of early last week.
“Signs were put up to encourage curlers not to shake hands before and after games as is customary,” the curling club’s general manager Rob Nordin tells NL News.
More details on the case itself have not been confirmed, including what kind of condition the person with virus might be in.
NL News has reached out to Interior Health for more information.
At time of posting, the general public had not been informed of the potential exposure by the Interior Health Authority. Similarly, three days ago, Island Health put out a service announcement for the public, after people were potentially exposed to COVID-19 in public facilities in Saanich.
