Medimap is helping people see a doctor virtually in just minutes.
The new service was launched on its website earlier this week where people can speak with a doctor about their issues which could include, but is not limited to, COVID-19 concerns.
CEO Blake Adam says there are a number of services that can be delivered virtually and have been safely by doctors for years.
“Because of our network of clinics that we already work with we were able to build this functionality in and basically give doctors at clinics we were already working with the ability to set their stats as available when they’re not busy. So essentially what we’re doing is connecting people with doctors who have time.”
Adam says medimap is a tool to find out how long wait times are at walk-in clinics, but with offices being closed it reached out to those in its network to see if they would be available to provide virtual consultations.
“If you need to speak with a doctor online, you have the opportunity of going to medimap.ca and we will connect you with a doctor in our network of walk-in clinics across the province. So you can speak with a doctor over a video call within 10 minutes of going on and submitting your request on the website.”
“It’s becoming increasingly difficult to find timely access to care. People are having trouble navigating the system. In large part the healthcare system is really quite overwhelmed. So being able to offer to people access to a doctor over a video call within 10 minutes of actually going in and submitting their request is a pretty unique offering I think.”
“They’ll need to have a valid BC personal health number. so that they’ll have coverage and don’t have to pay for the service themselves. When you go, you will submit your details through the web page and you will be able to select local pharmacy as well so if there is required the clicnic is able to fax it to your local pharmacy for pickup.”
Adam says if a doctor isn’t available right away, you can sign up for an alert that will let you know when someone is available.
