The Kamloops Blazers made two selections today in the inaugural WHL US Prospects Draft, adding to their list of prospects.
In the first round, they chose forward Drew Stewart from Minnetonka, Minnesota, 14th overall. The smaller forward is said to by a dynamic offensive player as described by the Blazers Director of Player Personnel, Robbie Sandland.
In the second round, the Blazers dipped into some NHL bloodlines, taking Calvin Vachon, the grandson of Hall of Fame NHL goaltender Rogie Vachon. He backstopped the LA Jr. Kings this past season.
Vachon calls Redondo Beach, California home, and was taken 31st overall.
The Blazers will get a first look at the American duo at training camp in the fall.
“That’s all we ever ask for them is come to camp,” GM Matt Bardsley told NL Sports. “As much as we are evaluating them, it allows them to evaluate us, and that’s our job. The top end players, they will always have options. They are going to have great options.”
