The mayor of Logan Lake says the new staffing model at its local health centre is working well.
The community was without a full-time physician as of late December, but mayor Robin Smith says that position was filled as of mid-March.
“So she’s sort of come in during tough times, but she’s doing just fine. Things seem to be going as well as possible in our local clinic here. And I’ve been sort of touching base with her to see how things are going. So it’s been a tough time I think for all of us. We’re hanging in here just as well as we can be, and people have been really gracious.”
Smith says there was a gap in service during the winter, but says there was local coverage in that time from a nurse practitioner.
“We did still manage to keep the coverage fairly good at the health centre during that time, so that’s probably why it wasn’t really on most people’s radar that there was going to be a gap in service, because they were able to keep that at a minimum for the most part.”
