Kamloops Blazers rookie Logan Stankoven has been named the WHL’s Western Conference rookie of the year for the 2019/20 season.
The Kamloops native led all 16-year-old players in goals with 29 goals in 58 games, tying the record set by Blazers legend Rob Brown in 1984/85. He also added 19 assists for 48 points in total.
Drafted fifth overall in 2018, Stankoven had 12 multi-point performances over the season. That included a four goal game on February 15 against the Victoria Royals, which was chosen by Blazers fans as the top Sandman Centre moment this season.
Stankoven will be up against Edmonton Oil Kings forward Dylan Guenther for the Jim Piggott Memorial Trophy as WHL Rookie of the Year. The winner will be announced on May 15.
