The BC Lions will not be holding a training camp in Kamloops this season because of COVID-19.
The city has confirmed that after the Lions had notified the city of their intentions today that if a CFL season is held, the Lions will hold training camp in the Lower Mainland, likely at their practice facility in Surrey.
CFL Commissioner Randy Ambrosie remains committed to playing a full season despite the interruptions because of COVID-19. However, the regular season will not get underway until at least July. The season was set to start on June 11.
This would have been the 11th consecutive year of the Lions holding training camp at Hillside Stadium, and the final year of a three year contract.
It will now carry over into next year, according to the city’s Operations and Events Supervisor, Sean Smith.
City has confirmed this to be the case. Not really a surprise but no doubt a blow to both #Kamloops and @BCLions https://t.co/lJLhCENuZD
