Highway 5A has been closed between Kamloops and Merritt because of flooding at Stump Lake.
DriveBC reported the closure just before 1 p.m. In the meantime, travellers are being asked to use the Coquihalla as an alternate route between Kamloops and Merritt.
There’s no estimated reopening time for the highway, but DriveBC now says it will be closed until at least Friday.
A photo from the Ministry of Transportation shows water across the highway at Stump Lake, about 35 kilometres south of Kamloops.
A flood warning has been in place at Stump Lake for more than a week, as snow continues to melt at higher elevations. The lake is prone to flooding during the spring snow melt, having spilled its banks most recently in 2018 and 2017.
NL News has reached out to the Thompson-Nicola Regional District for more information on the flooding situation today.
