B.C.’s Finance Minister indicates there could be flexibility on the deadlines that taxes have been deferred to, based on the situation on COVID-19.
Carole James says at this point, bills like the carbon tax will now need to be paid on Oct. 1.
“In the summer time, we’ll be having a conversation, just as I talked about with all of our other benefits. We’ll be looking at the challenges people are facing, we’ll be looking at the pressures, and we’ll be making a decision then. But at this point, it’ll be October 1st that it’ll occur,” James says.
The province deferred a number of taxes for businesses to allow for cash liquidity during this pandemic, as many businesses have shut down through the spring or have seen a dramatic drop in revenues.
