Kamloopsians are in for a show this weekend as Canada’s aerobatic flying team will make a rare visit to the city.
The Royal Canadian Air Force Snowbirds are crossing the country as part of ‘Operation Inspiration’, hoping to boost moral of Canadians during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Captain Steve McKeen is the groups number three pilot and said on the NL Morning News, that this mission is unlike the usual air shows that they do this time of year.
“We’ve been deliberately planning our over flights to not over fly large areas where people can congregate,” he said. “We’re flying over people’s back yards, we’re flying over the communities themselves so that people can hopefully see us from their backyard so that we can maintain social distancing.”
McKeen says they’ve been getting some excellent feedback from people across Canada.
“I mean I got back into the cockpit yesterday and we started flying yesterday and you know, just seeing all of these people out in their backyards waving, it’s just fantastic and the feedback we’ve had on social media has been great as well, so thank you to everyone for that,” he added.
The group is scheduled to land at Kamloops Airport around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. McKeen says the CF Snowbirds Facebook page will have updated times.
