It’s official. The City of Kamloops is set to start planning a memorial at the Kamloops Airport to honour fallen Snowbird, Capt. Jenn Casey.
Council has voted unanimously to have staff engage the Royal Canadian Air Force and the family of Captain Casey about options, and will report back.
It’s not clear exactly how the memorial will look, but Mayor Ken Christian says the city knows where it will be.
“There is an opportunity with the new Observation Park that’s going to be created as part of the Tranquille Gateway project at the conclusion of the (Trans Mountain pipeline) crossing the Thompson River, at that location,” Christian said.
“That’s a site actually where people naturally congregate to observe take off and landings from Fulton Field. So we’d ask staff, if this is approved, to explore that.”
Capt. Casey died tragically on May 17, after her Snowbirds Tutor jet crashed into a Brock neighborhood just moments after takeoff.
