A three-day pop-up drive in movie theatre in Kamloops later this month sold out just hours after it was announced.
Kamloops Film Society Executive Director Dusan Magdolen says the event set for June 25 to the 27 was in the works for some time, and he is hoping it can become a regular summer event.
“Location is obviously the biggest thing. The city has been great about finding McArthur Island but as sports potentially pick up, we’re not 100 per cent sure what that will mean for us, but we are working with them to see if the two can coexist,” he said.
“It’s pretty hard to hit a baseball in pitch dark which is kind of when we want to be going. Hopefully we can find some sort of balance.”
Licensing the movies and insurance are two of the other factors that he says organizers will have to factor in.
“We’re definitely sort of interested in how it goes and that sort of thing,” he said. “Especially under the current conditions, we’d love to continue to run it for the rest of the summer, but we are trying out this one and seeing how it goes. We hope people come out and have a good time and we can keep doing it for the rest of the summer.”
Dubbed the ‘Twin Rivers Drive In’, it will be the first drive in movie theatre in Kamloops since the late 1990’s. Each of the three showings is capped at 50 vehicles, with a maximum of six people per vehicle.
And for people who were able to get tickets, the drive-in will be showing Trolls World Tour and Back to the Future.
