Following a rainy month of June, the BC Wildfire Service is going to allow Category 2 fires across the Kamloops Fire Centre, starting at noon tomorrow, June 19.
Category 2 fires are no more than two metres high by three metres wide. Fireworks, sky lanterns and burn barrels will also be allowed.
“Considering weather patterns and the time of year, the BC Wildfire Service has identified an opportunity to allow Category 2 open burning throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre,” said a statement. “Ongoing assessment of the need for prohibitions is occurring.”
Category 3 open fires – fires larger than two metres high by three metres wide – remain prohibited throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre.
Open burning restrictions were implemented across B.C. two months ago on April 16 in an effort to reduce the risk of human-cased wildfires during the COVID-19 pandemic.
