Despite COVID-19 preventing large gatherings, Kamloopsians can still take part in local Canada Day celebrations in a virtual way.
There is a long list of online activities including musical and dance performances, face painting exercises and learning to make your own food colour fireworks.
Community Event Coordinator Dewi Evans says it will be different to what the normal line up would be. “But equally as exciting because of the variety that we’ve got is definitely some of the best that Kamloops has to offer.”
Executive Director of the Kamloops Arts Council Terri Hadwin says it was really excited to be able support the arts community with this event. “Inviting the symphony and Western Canada Theatre, Project X. So many of our different arts groups that weren’t able to put on their regular performances, so that was a big win for us. And we also have the River Town Players debuting tomorrow so I think that everybody is going to be really excited to tune in and watch them perform.”
Dewi adds to that saying it is quite an extensive line up. “Kamloops Fry will be taking part, the Big Little Science Centre doing some science projects, River Town Players doing an entertaining piece, Kamloops Symphony, Kamloops Arts Council are obviously directing a number of their groups to be part of it. We’ve got last years winners of the Kamloops Buskers Festival doing a piece from Australia. So it is going to be quite an arrangement of different activities, entertainment and performances for people to enjoy.”
All the festivities will kick off at 11:00 in the morning and you can watch and learn more by visiting the local Canada Day web page.
