The Barriere Pass Forest Service Road fire, northwest of Adams Lake, continues to grow in size, and it remains out of control at this time.
The fire is now mapped at 36.8 hectares in size, up from the 20 hectares yesterday. The BC Wildfire Service says the fire is burning in an area which is posing challenge for firefighters, however, there are no structures that are threatened.
“We did receive a little bit of rain on that fire so its now burning at Rank 1, which means its a smouldering ground fire,” she said. “We have 40 personnel on site, assisted by two helicopters.”
A cause of the fire remains unknown at this time, and people on Adams Lake may see some smoke.
That fire was one of several in the Shuswap although most are now considered under control, meaning the fires are not expected to grow in size. That includes the 15 hectare Crazy Creek fire, northwest of the Three Valley Gap area, Crews will be monitoring and putting out any hot spots.
However, two smaller fires by the Crazy Creek fire – the two hectare Eagle Pass Mountain fire, and a new 0.1 hectare Crazy Creek #2 fire are both burning out of control at this time.
“We have some rappel firefighters working on that one, its not threatening any structures but its also burning in a very difficult area,” Fraser said. “The Eagle Pass is currently burning out of control at Rank 1, so smouldering ground fires, and we’ve been sharing resources between that one and the two Crazy Creek fires.”
The 10 hectare Laluwissin Creek fire, southeast of Lillooet is also being held at this time. Fraser says there are 12 firefighters working on scene there today
