With an election set for October 24, one of our local Liberal MLAs says his party is ready.
Both ridings in the Kamloops area went to the Liberals in the last election.
Kamloops South Thompson’s Todd Stone said on the NL Morning News, despite being the incumbent, he and the Liberals are prepared for a fight. “You never take anything for granted.”
“You never, ever under estimate your political opponents. You never ever take the voters for granted. Every election is essentially like moving like moving from the regular season into the playoffs and you start from scratch.”
Stone admits, with the world in the grips of a pandemic, this election will be like no other. “How we interact with voters, how you actually are able to connect is going to be very different. I there’s going to be a lot less door knocking, some candidates won’t even door knock. There will be no big events, there’s no big leaders tours that will cross the province.”
He says his party saw this coming and is prepared. “We are ready. We’re going to be ready to take the fight to John Horgan and the NDP in these Kamloops ridings. I’d be interested to learn who actually the NDP are going to put up as candidates in the two Kamloops ridings because nary a rumour has been heard about that.”
Stone says he plans to meet with his Kamloops North Thompson counter part Peter Milobar. “Pete and I will be talking about what we believe our priorities are, capital and operational, other priorities in Kamloops moving forward like schools and so forth and we’ll see who wins at the end of the day.
