Canada West will delay making a decision on whether or not it will resume athletics in January during the winter term at universities in Western Canada.
It says the decision will now be made no later than November 2, about one month later the original deadline of October 8.
“Following feedback from student-athletes, the conference’s Board of Directors voted earlier this week to delay a decision on second term competition, allowing as much time as possible to assess the feasibility of conference play returning given the evolving COVID-19 environment,” a statement from Canada West said.
Among the sports where the Thompson Rivers University fields teams that remain in limbo are basketball, volleyball, and swimming. Also impacted is hockey, rugby 7s, track and field, wrestling and the Canada West curling championships.
Back in June, Canada West cancelled all fall university sports because of COVID-19 pandemic and then later cancelled cross country and golf championships as well.
