School District 73 is estimating the cost of a late November fire at a property that it owns will cost upwards of $300,000.
Secretary Treasurer Kelvin Stretch says the fire occurred in the early hours of Saturday, Nov. 28. He notes that the Dutch Lake Community Centre is owned by the school district, but is currently being leased to the District of Clearwater.
“There was some damage to the roof, the gym floor, some of the siding, insulation and some truss repair will be required and some soffit and fascia replacement at the corner of the building.”
“We have been working with the insurance adjuster with the district of Clearwater. We also had advised the school protection program of the fire and they assigned an adjuster to work with the district of Clearwater. Early estimates are the cost of the repair would be somewhere between $300,000 and $400,000 and we will provide updates on a regular basis but we’re closely with the district of Clearwater to repair the school.”
Stretch notes the damage will be covered by insurance and will not be paid for directly by the school district.
