B.C. is looking for legal advice about non-essential out-of-province travel during the pandemic.
Premier John Horgan says he wants to make it black and white what’s technically allowed and what isn’t, after politicians in other provinces went on vacations over Christmas.
“I want to put this either to rest, so that British Columbians understand that we cannot do that and we’re not going to do that, or that there is a way to do it, and that we’re going to work with other provinces to achieve it. And I think it’s time we put it to bed, finally, and say either we can do it and this is how we would do it, or we can’t, and this is the reason why. That’s the objective.”
He says he understands the firestorm of public frustration and anger that has followed.
“Because Canadians, and British Columbians, are making sacrifices. And one of those sacrifices is staying close to home, not travelling to see loved ones, not going to tend to what would’ve been traditions or pressing matters, like the loss of life for a loved one in another part of the country.”
Horgan says he hopes to have more information from legal advice within “a couple of days.”
