B.C. health officials are reporting another 465 cases of COVID-19 today along with six more deaths – the sixth day in a row with fewer than 500 new cases.
There were 54 new cases in Interior Health today, with another 234 new cases in Fraser Health, 98 in Vancouver Coastal Health, 52 in Northern Health, and 27 on Vancouver Island.
There was one more case at Royal Inland Hospital taking the total to 92 cases, while there were two more cases at the Westsyde Care Residences, which is now at 21 cases.
Interior Health has 985 active cases of COVID-19 as of today, a drop in seven from yesterday. There were no deaths, with 51 people in hospital, 20 of whom are in critical care.
Active cases provincewide are at 4,447 with 257 people in hospital, 76 of whom are in intensive care. A further 6,943 people are being actively monitored by public health teams after an exposure to someone with the virus.
“As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, the challenges we face have evolved. But what has not changed are the benefits of our collective efforts,” said a statement from Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, noting the COVID curve in the province is slowly trending downwards.
“As we make plans for the weekend ahead, let’s ensure we don’t make the Super Bowl a superspreading day, by making safe choices. This is especially important given we are still learning about the full impact of the variants of concern now in our communities.”
There have now been 145,567 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine administered in B.C., 8,097 of which are second doses.
And there are now 62,078 people who are considered to have recovered from COVID-19, about 89 per cent of the 69,245 cases in British Columbia.
