You can add seven more WHL teams on the return-to-play approval list.
Saskatchewan’s five teams and two based in Manitoba have received permission from health authorities ahead of a return-to-play starting Mar. 12 in Regina. The seven teams will make up an ‘East Division’ and play a 24-game shortened season.
“We appreciate the cooperation we have received from both the Governments of Saskatchewan and Manitoba as we work towards a safe return to play in the East Division,” WHL Commissioner Ron Robison said.
This approval means the US Division, the Central Division in Alberta, and the East Division all have their return-to-play plans in place. It leaves British Columbia as the only division without an approval from health authorities.
The WHL and BC Health Authorities are expected to meet again next week. Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry has said she’s open to a spring WHL season as B.C. teams await return to play.
The Western Hockey League has been granted approval to host a Hub Center in Regina.
