No injuries after a house fire at 1490 Westerdale Drive in Aberdeen this afternoon.
Kamloops Fire Assistant Chief Ryan Cail says the fire was contained to a small area in the home but at this time its unclear what caused the fire at the highest valued residential property in the city.
“A big beautiful home with a lot of really nice stuff in as well and it was up into the attic space where the fire was growing quite quickly so [crews] took in a small apparatus, small tools, saws and stuff, just to get into the attic and pull some ceiling and some insulation and get into the unburnt stuff,” he told NL News.
“Even with all the challenges amidst the crews managed to make a quick entrance and really quick knock down and managed to keep the fire kind of contained to one small area of the home which is really really good considering the challenges.”
At this time Cail says its unclear what caused the fire this afternoon. Crews began to respond around 12:15 p.m. after reports of smoke showing.
“Prior to crews arriving on scene a second alarm was struck. They knew it was going to be a big fire and you knew they were going to need some extra help. Obviously weather was helping,” Cail added.
Smoke was visible across parts of the city but it was especially prominent in Aberdeen and Pineview.
