UPDATED:
Two people were killed in a crash on Highway 1 near Orchards Walk this morning.
Kamloops RCMP Const. Crystal Evelyn says the crash happened just before 10 a.m. in the eastbound lanes near Grand Boulevard, involving a green Toyota 4Runner and a semi-truck.
Evelyn says when police arrived, the 4Runner was in a ditch and the semi had jack-knifed further east.
There were four people in the 4Runner and two were pronounced dead at the scene, according to Evelyn. The other two occupants were taken to hospital with undisclosed injuries.
There has been no indication of any injuries to the semi-truck driver involved.
Details of why the crash happened are still being investigated but Evelyn says weather was likely a factor. Snow was falling and sticking to the highway at the time of the crash.
As of 3:53 p.m., DriveBC says the crash scene has now been fully cleared and all lanes are open, both eastbound and westbound.
Police are asking anyone who may have dashcam footage of the crash to call Kamloops RCMP and reference file number 2021-4830.
