Kamloops RCMP say a retail store and an auto shop were hit by smash-and-grab thieves early Sunday morning.
Spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn says police responded to a report of a break and enter on the Yellowhead Highway round 2:48 a.m. on Marcy 7.
“Surveillance video showed two men wearing dark clothing with their hoods up and faces covered, approach the building from the north,” she said. “One of the men approached the business, kicked in the glass door, stole a donation box, then headed southbound on foot.”
Evelyn says a few hours later at 5:47 a.m., a retail business at Aberdeen Mall was broken into.
“A man broke the store’s glass door, stole items, then left in a red Ford Explorer,” she said. “The suspect was described as possibly Caucasian. He was wearing a red and black hat with a Honda logo, black jacket and black shoes.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP and reference file number 2021-7018 for the donation box, 2021-7023 for the retail store.
Those two calls were part of approximately 335 calls for service made to police from midnight Friday March 5, to 9 a.m. on Monday March 8, 2021.
Man stabbed at Columbia Street West motel
Another one of those calls on Sunday was for a man who was stabbed at a motel room in the 500-block of Columbia Street West.
Evelyn says police were called around 12:16 p.m. to reports that a man had been ‘stabbed in the heart’.
“Upon arrival, police located a man with non-life threatening cuts on his body. He was transported to hospital,” she said.
“The Police Dog Service attended and conducted a track of the area, but no one was located. The suspect was described only as a Caucasian man in black clothing.”
Evelyn says the victim did not cooperate with police.
Impaired driving investigation leads to three arrests
Evelyn also says several police officers were called to an impaired driving investigation around 11:50 p.m. on Saturday March 6, after things began to get out of control.
She says an officer with the RCMP’s Central Interior Traffic Services had pulled a vehicle over at Willow and Poplar Streets on North Shore when the people insisde got about and began swearing at the officer while hitting his vehicle’s windows.
“As backup arrived and the passengers were arrested, the vehicle’s driver allegedly became destructive, kicking the police vehicle’s windows and spitting at officers,” she said.
All three people were arrested, then later released – one with a court date related to alleged offences.”
If you have information on these or other incidents, Evelyn says to contact Kamloops RCMP. Less serious crimes, such as stolen or damaged property without any witnesses or suspects, can also be reported online here.
