A well-known Kamloops lawyer and former B.C. Provincial Court judge will be the federal NDP candidate in the Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo riding, whenever the next election is called.
Bill Sundhu will be acclaimed as the candidate at the April 7 nomination meeting. He announced his intention to seek the nomination a month ago.
“We are at a historic crossroads in Canada,” Sundhu said. “The government policy decisions we make this year will affect us for decades. There’s so much at stake.”
“The pandemic starkly revealed major gaps in our society and economy, which must be seriously addressed. Any recovery plan will be short-sighted and ineffective if it does not repair the foundational inequities in our society and address the crisis of climate change. This is a moment to fight for fundamental reform.”
Born in New Westminster and raised in the Cariboo, Sundhu has lived in Kamloops for the past 25 years. He was a candidate in the 2015 federal election where he finished second behind current Conservative MP, Cathy McLeod.
“Now more than ever, we need a bold new vision and leaders in Ottawa to fight to make things better for all Canadians – a Canada where no one is left behind,” he added.
Sundhu becomes the first candidate to be nominated as a candidate in Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo. Four people are currently seeking the Conservative nomination while no candidates have yet stepped forward seeking the Liberal or Green nomination.
